it wasn’t until just a few minutes ago that I noticed the bruise from my IV (when I had the bronch) had turned all different colors. I tried to take a picture of it but my camera overcompensates and none of the shots came out looking like it really does. Take my word for it. It may not be a spectacular as the bruises my sisters have gotten when they fell/tripped, whatever, but it is for me.

I’d been up for hours when my nurse friend knocked on the door to give me my shot. She took care of business then asked if I needed anything from town. I told her Cuz was supposed to bring me Stuff and thanked her. She mentioned she was out of potatoes and that went “ding ding ding ding” in my head. My potatoes had mostly turned green from the light in the pantry and I’d been having a yen for a baked potato. Before it was over, I asked her to bring me five lubs of baking taters and five lubs red. She’d be glad to and should be back in two hours, give or take.

Russet_PotatoJust about the two hour mark, I heard her on the deck. She had picked out some winners. I wrote her the second check of this month (the other one was to her, too). I just checked (!) and the ones I’ve written that have cleared in the last year total 10. I know the first one I wrote to her hasn’t been cashed and the one I wrote to Cuz a few weeks ago hasn’t been, either. I hope they aren’t doing this to keep me from spending my money. I may not be rich but I’m not destitute (yet) either.

This afternoon, I washed one of the baking potatoes and put it in the toaster oven. Those two last ears of corn had been staring at me whenever I opened the fridge so I got them out and tipped the kernels, then scraped the cream from the cobs. Putting it on to cook with a little evaporated cane juice, salt and water, I took the compost and put it in the bucket. While I was out there, I fed the Catz for the second time.

When I got back to the kitchen, the corn was furiously cooking. I turned the burner off and moved the pan away from the heat. It was already burned. That was okay. It made it taste like Mother’s fried corn.

Along with the potato and corn (both starches) I had a few crackers with Elianni’s Tartex sort of clone. I’ve since paid the price with coughing and gagging.

Nurse friend said there had been a cloudburst in town when she was leaving. It had gotten dark and overcast here but I don’t think a drop of rain fell. Starting tomorrow through the rest of the week, it’s supposed to be stormy. Things are beginning to look dry so it’s about time.

Be careful with those checks; you might need to order more in five years or so!

      They’ll probably outlast me.
