Last night was when I decided to make good on my threat to sleep in Mother’s chair rather than the bed. I’d showered late and made sure I got my feet toasty and warm. If I try to sleep with cold feet, it’s nigh onto impossible. I don’t know how long I slept but I woke myself coughing. I coughed and coughed so I decided I might as well cough in bed so that’s where I wound up until I woke this morning.
There was an early call from the dentist’s office. They’d promised to let me know if a cancellation could get me in sooner for a cleaning and today was the day. Did I want to be there at 12:45? Well, no (I didn’t say that). Okay. That’d work.
Keeping in mind that the hygienist might not appreciate garlic and onion breath, I decided against my guac and chips. Instead, I mashed the avo up with some Just Mayo and put it on a piece of toast. That isn’t all I had. There was the usual fresh-squeezed OJ, banana and Dandy Blend.
My sister had left a comment about my B12 on yesterday’s post. I appreciated the reminder and took time to shoot myself in the leg. My right hand is developing a tremor. It doesn’t cause a problem drawing it up but going from pushing the needle in to pushing the plunger gets a little shaky. And forget my trying to do anything to help with my left. Huh-uh.
The weather had been sunny early on but the clouds were moving in. I hadn’t checked the forecast so I did before I left. Sure enough, there was an 80% chance of rain so I grabbed my umbrella.
Arriving at the office, I signed in and went to the bathroom. When I came out, I spied one of my former bosses from the hospital. She was the one who’d moved me from insurance biller and Jill of all trades to office manager. It was so good to see her. We hugged and sat down to visit. We’d just gotten started when her dad walked out and she had to stop and take care of his bill, next appointment, etc., etc.
I was called back by a very pretty lady who looked somewhat familiar. It turns out she’s the sister of the dentist I used to go to years ago. She updated me on his condition. He had to leave his practice early because of health issues. Sad, but she said he’s generally happy. I know the last time I saw him he seemed like his old self. That was before I retired so it’s been several years.
Since I let her know I was dreading the Ordeal, she made me as comfortable as possible. The x-rays are so simple now compared to the old cardboard-and-film-in-the-mouth. She did x-rays of my back teeth and then took me to the 360 where it imaged all of my teeth at one go.
When I was back in the chair, she covered me with a soft warm blanket. I’d been tempted to request nitrous but wasn’t sure how I’d do with my breathing problems. Besides, it was $50 extra. Back in the day, it was $15. I’m a little calmer now since I was no doubt hyped up on caffeine then.
She used a topical anesthetic which made the scaling bearable. The picking and scraping didn’t last as long as I had imagined it would. When she was through, she called the dentist in to look at everything. And everything didn’t look good.
Because of my reflux and sucking on peppermints to help with coughing, I have several cavities. My two front PJCs are around 20 years old and need to be redone. I have a crown on a back molar that will have to be taken off, a cavity cared for and then reseated. The printout includes an implant to replace the tooth that was pulled. The bottom line is lotsa dollars. The nice lady at the front window explained it all to me but it didn’t make it less painful.
I used to say I had a new car in my mouth. With this installment, I’ll maybe have the house to go with it. Oh, and I’ll be going back on my original appointment date to finish the cleaning.
It was raining when I left. I’d planned to do my grocery shopping today since I’d eaten my last banana for breakfast. Save A Lot didn’t have what I needed so I ended up with bananas and a package of tortillas. Guess it’s to town I’ll go, after all. While I’m there, I’ll shop for a Waterpik.
Back home, I waited until 4 and took a pain pill. I’d been warned my gums and tongue would be sore. I’ve rinsed with salt water, too.
Cuz came over and I showed her the printout. She said it was more damage than hers was. When she left, all of the Catz had congregated on the deck. I guess they were hungry.
I’d had some soup and was eating some Fordhooks when Cuz came in. I didn’t have a whole lot of appetite but I knew I needed to eat.
The editor has been emailing and evidently has “hired” another victim to help with the website. I hope she isn’t planning on paying him more since he’s a man. I guess that’s being petty but I believe in income equality.
It’s been a full day and I’m ready to call it. Sabbath is a big day for the Democrats. There are 142 delegates up for grabs in Alaska, Washington and Hawaii. Next time I check in, we’ll see if Bernie is catching up.
