Slip Slidin’ Away

It was too cool to be comfortable when I got up this morning. I turned up the heat, took my morning meds and went back to bed. When I got up an hour later, it was bearable.

Cuz and I had set 11:30 as the departing time for us to go to the big city so I could visit with my gastroenterologist. I did all of my quiet time except for listening to the Sabbath School lesson discussion. Then I called Genese for a short conversation to say WOOHOO because the WiFi had been reinstated at all the facilities. The Mother Ship had posted in answer to me that “Although there were some network hiccups the last few days, those technical issues have now been resolved and we currently have no plans to do away with the Wifi.” Yeah, right. They had plainly said it had been taken down because of budget cuts. ANYWAY, when Genese came on the line, she told me it had come up about 8 last night. She’s still going to investigate getting her own private access. I hope she can find something affordable. Data plans aren’t cheap and they’re pretty limited.

I was all but ready when Cuz came over. It was a beautiful day and we were out and on the road in no time.

There wasn’t a very long wait when we got to the gastro’s office. I parted with another $30 to be able to see him for a few minutes. My BP was 108/60-something. I think the bottom number was 62 but I can’t be sure.

We hadn’t been in the exam room long when the doc came in. I told him what had transpired between the last time I saw him and now. He still seems to think medication is the answer to take care of my problem. I asked him if he’d seen the results of my barium swallow. From what he said, I didn’t think he had. He scrolled through my record until he came to the report and he said, well, yes. This does show you have acid reflux. Finally!

He pressed the matter about doing another endoscopy. I had been thinking about it and told him okay. It’s scheduled for next week. That’s another $95 less 10% for prompt payment. Cha-CHING!

Even at that, and factoring in appointments for the rest of the year, I’ll be out something like $1,000 less than if I had traditional Medicare and a supplement.

The visit didn’t last long and, as usual, he didn’t touch me. Never has except when I had the endoscopy before. Cuz commenced to preach about it and told me what she thought. I was relieved for it not to be prolonged. He said what he wanted and I said what I wanted. We came to a conclusion and I’m okay with it. I like talking with my PCP. The others, I’d as soon phone it in. There’s no love lost.

We left about 45 minutes after we got there and went straight to Taco Bell. I got two bean burritos but was only able to eat one. Mother would have said my eyes were bigger than my stomach. I brought the other one home.

ALDI was the next stop, then Walmart where I saw my favorite produce girl and then Food City. After that, it was on home.

Cuz unloaded the van and brought my things in, then took her things into her house. She came back to put in the new bulbs I got for the fixtures in the kitchen. My CIL came over to help her. He unwrapped the tubes, cleaned the covers and handed her what she needed and the job was over and done in no time. I don’t like the lights as much as full spectrum but this is what they had and they do look better than the greenish glow from the shop lights she’d put in as a test.

I’m tired and my eyes are itchy. I’ve been sneezing. I hope I’m not getting a cold. The humidity in the house is down to 48%. That could have something to do with it. My hands are starting to get dry and rough. Warm weather is on the way out and it’s so long until spring. ::sigh::

I’m glad the WiFi has been restored. “the squeaky wheel gets greased.”

Yes, it does. Taking it down wasn’t a good public relations move.

Rejoicing for Genese and the other captives who need their internet access.

I was counting the months of cold weather ahead and don’t think I’ll do it again. It’s not encouraging!
