If at First You Don’t Succeed…

I was beginning to think I wasn’t going to be able to get into the creation part of my blog tonight. Trying multiple times, I finally prevailed.

It’s been a strange day. One of my Facebook friends (and a former forum member) messaged me privately. Our exchange turned into an almost three hour conversation. I wasn’t sitting at the computer the whole time, however. I had to call a halt so I could get something else done.

I’d gotten all my Christmas shopping (except for one gift) taken care of on Friday. It was all online and everything will be delivered to the recipients. No gift wrap. I’m through buying stuff that will be wadded up and thrown away. I’d say, roughly, 90% of the gifts were paid for with my cash back bonus. Anything else I might buy at Walmart can be bought with my gift cards from Humana. With Twinkle making inroads on my budget, every extra bit helps.

When I tried to use the phone this morning, I got an error code. Remembering my experience from the other day, I unplugged and plugged it into my netbook. Sure enough, it had switched from telephone to headset. I switched it back and contacted support. “Billy” said to upgrade it and sent me the link. I upgraded and it sat there and thought and thought and thought. I told him the upgrade had broken it. Well, that was the wrong upgrade. Use this link. That one worked. I asked if it would keep it from reverting to headset and he said yes. I told him it would have been nice if he’d given me the right link to begin with. I thought his reasoning was a bit odd. He said the first one was for “troubleshooting”. Yeah. We’ll see if it continues to work.

My cousin and I were on the phone when DD called. The voice mail said to call her on her cell phone which tipped me off that she wasn’t at home. Sure enough, she was at a friend’s apartment. We didn’t talk long.

I had a brief conversation with DS1. He later called me back. Exciting times.

Twinkle ate a little more than half a fourth of a can of cat food in 24 hours. I know she won’t founder. The place on her chest/under her “arm” is looking better. I’m supposed to take her back for shots and a weigh-in tomorrow.

Computer Support just assisted the Computer Owner with some questions. She’s a quick learner and that’s gratifying. It’s nice that we both have the same operating systems on our machines. That makes it so much easier for me to tell her how to navigate. She had some questions about my blog, too, that I hope I answered satisfactorily.

I finally won a Wordscraper game after losing three. Here are the final scores for the last five plus one still in progress (the 24 is how many tiles are left):

I Won!

Here’s the board. Everyone should know which carol this represents:

A Christmas Carol

Twinkle has vacated my lap and gone to get a drink of water. I should take it as my signal to wind this up and go to bed.

Well, this is one person that doesn’t know what it means and doesn’t have time to try to figure it out. Congratulations on your win!

Don’t tell anyone else. It’s “Away In a Manger”. And thanks!

I kind of, sort of, suspected that was what it might be. Other than that, Wordscraper is totally beyond me. Have never even heard of it except for your ongoing games. Glad you know what you’re doing!

Wordscraper is a lot like Scrabble only more fun. Obviously, the boards can be created just about any way the creator wants to make them. The letter values can be manipulated, too. I think the distribution can be changed, as well, but I’m not sure. Since Genese makes all the boards (she’s better at it than I am), she’s the one who would know the answer to that. Oh, and they can be UK English, US English, French or Italian. We usually play UK English since US English is limited.
