Still Holding Out

Today has been another dragged out one. Yesterday was stressful enough and then I didn’t have a good night’s sleep—again. I’d love a repeat of last Thursday night but it seems to come ‘way too rarely. Maybe…

Twinkle has been taking turns sleeping and being restless. She’s been squatting and straining in the most inappropriate places. A lot of attention is being paid to her backside. I wonder if she has an anal impaction again. Spell check says that should be “imp action”. Might be apt. I tried to have a closer look but she hissed at me, got up and flounced off. This may mean another trip to town sooner than next week.

I was up and dressed when the doorbell rang. It was my cousin’s crew member to put in the dishwasher. He wheeled it inside and proceeded to do his thing. I told him DS1 had said he’d watched the installation of their dishwasher and it didn’t look too hard. Well, it would be for me! The CM said it isn’t as long as you have the know-how. He should have added, “and the right parts”.

Here’s the original:

And now a series of pictures showing the process.

Will it fit?

Working on it.

More problems.

CM went out for something and who gets in on the project?

The Chief Inspector

She didn’t want the CM to know she’d been poking around…

It was looking better:

Almost there.

The CM left to get a part for the dishwasher. I thought he’d made a quick trip when the doorbell rang. I opened the door and spied a large box on the deck. It said it was a microwave but I knew I hadn’t ordered one. Struggling in with it, I grabbed a knife and was going to open it when the doorbell rang again. This time it was my cousin. She wanted to know why I was armed and I showed her the box. “Well,” she said, “maybe it’s something else and not a microwave.” But it was from Amazon and Amazon doesn’t use microwave boxes to ship things. Besides, it said a gift was enclosed.

After opening it and searching for a packing slip, I finally spied one on the side of the box. The gift message said, “Merry Christmas! Thought it might be about time for a new one, so hopefully this one is good. If not, maybe you can send it back and find another one that you like better. I love you,” and it was signed by DD.

The CM came in and I asked him if he wanted a microwave. I told him it was a GE. He asked how much and I said he could have it. Cousin said there was one catch. He would have to move it out and put the other one in its place. He was happy to get it since the one his family is using has a problem. He’d planned to buy a new one for his wife’s Christmas gift. Now he can get her something more romantic.

I’d already tried calling DD but got voice mail. I tried again and got an answer. While she was home, she had inspected the microwave and found it was the one she had in academy. The date of manufacture was 1994. It was almost 20 years old. No wonder she thought it was time for a new one.

Twinkle is back on her chair and is curled up asleep. I found a wet spot on one of the sheets covering a vent. At least I can wash the sheet. I just went in and checked. She’d eaten a little so that’s a plus. I think I’ll call the vet tomorrow rather than waiting until Friday.

When the dishwasher is usable, it will have a really good test. I’m collecting dirty dishes and only washing pots and pans in the meantime. I don’t put my Saladmaster in a dishwasher, anyway. I’m glad it isn’t fruit fly season.

Congrats on the new microwave! Glad you found a good home for the old one.

Installing the dishwasher looks like a major job, and I know you (and the installer) will rejoice when it’s done!
