My Week: Working Makes Me Fat

Well, not FAT but I definitely got slimmer while I was on vacation and I’ve gained since I went back to work. I’m pretty sure it’s because I can start my evening meal around 4 o’clock when I’m home all day but there’s no way to even get here by that time when I’m working. So…I’m carrying more around my middle as a consequence.

Just a little side story before I get started on the week—I took my friend some of my “fudge” semi-disaster when I went back after the 4th. She was sound asleep so I didn’t alert her that I was anywhere around. Laying the little snack bag on the table by her laptop, I went out. When she woke, she asked someone who’d left the tidbits and was told, “It was that skinny woman.” Now, skinny, I’m not. Anyone who has to wear a 36E bra is NOT skinny. I guess compared to some I am. Oh, and my friend told me that was the most delicious thing she’d ever tasted and that takes in a lot of territory.

Now we’ll get to Sunday. One set of fluorescent lights in the kitchen had bitten the dust so I’d bought replacements on Friday. I put new ones in both fixtures because it seems no matter how hard you try, you can’t match old ones and new ones. I cleaned all the bugs out, too. 😛

My neighbor came over and looked at some of the things on my “need to have done” list. It reads

kitchen sink
computer desk
storm door
ceiling fan
bathroom outlets

She worked on the sink (merm had gotten it to quit leaking a couple of years ago but it had started again), looked at my computer desk and told me what to do there. She said I didn’t want to buy a new storm door because it would be expensive for a doublewide. The ceiling fan is DOA though the lights still work. I was to get a new fan and she would install it. The bathroom outlets don’t work because of a bad breaker. She’ll have to get a new one. Something had awakened me in the middle of the night either trying to get in or get out and it wasn’t a person. She said she’d look about that when she had more time but I haven’t heard it since. She promised to get a lot of this done on Thursday afternoon.

DD and I had a good visit. She’s going to have to start thinking about looking for work. I’d like to start thinking about retiring. Well, I AM thinking about it but that’s as far as I’ve gotten. If we could just trade places…

Monday, I made my “fudge”. That took up a lot of time because I had to keep washing the coconut oil off my hands so I wouldn’t get it on the camera. The result really was so good, I’d be almost willing to make the same mistakes again. Almost but not quite. I’ve been thinking about how I could get much the same result without the mess. If it works, I’ll post it, too.

I’d been looking at washers and dryers online and found what I wanted. I knew Lowe’s was open even though it was a holiday so I called the appliance department. They didn’t have them in the store but could order them for me. I went for it. Later, my neighbor told me she meant to let me know to have her husband go with me if I were to buy something big from them because he could get me a discount. Oh, well. What’s done is done. They are to deliver the pair on Wednesday, the 13th. Then I won’t have to hang laundry on the line unless I want to.

Tuesday, it was back to work. It felt like Monday all day. Wednesday and Thursday came and went with my neighbor getting home too late to do anything on the house. She asked me if there was anything pressing and I told her it could all wait awhile longer. Then the pipe under the sink came apart the very next day.

I’d had one of my co-workers look at my blog post about the bits and she almost laughed me out of her office. I promised to take her a piece on Friday and that’s what I did. She said it looked like a Tootsie Roll but it tasted better. She was surprised it was so good. Made my day.

Twinkle woke me too early this morning, meowing outside my door. One day when I could sleep in…I dragged out of bed and got started getting ready to go to church. Everything was good today. My favorite teacher taught the lesson and the pastor had the sermon. I wasn’t cold because I’d slipped and closed the register beside the pew where I sit. I still had my jacket on but the men had their suits so I figured I’d match.

When I got home, I had some water kefir followed by some decent watermelon. Then I had peaches with blueberries I picked myself.

Peaches and Blueberries

Now, I didn’t go to the patch and pick them. Before you think I have been in the outdoors getting berries, let me set you straight. I’d bought a 24 ozzie container of berries at Wally World a week ago yesterday. When I got them home, I put them on the top shelf of the fridge. Next time I opened the door, the container somehow got caught on something and went tumbling to the floor. It popped open and berries were everywhere. I had to pick all those up and put them back into the container. There was no way I was going to pitch them. When I got ready to use them, I put them in the sink, sprayed them thoroughly with Veggie Wash and let them sit for a few minutes. Then I rinsed them twice and put them in a colander lined with paper towels. This is the last of them. They were really good.

I got the peaches from the produce man by the courthouse. I don’t know what variety they are but they are very sweet. I didn’t put anything on any of it but just slurped them up.

My cherry tomatoes are coming in. I didn’t realize the best pictures I took would both be skewed but that’s the way it happened. They are so good and sweet! I love summertime tomatoes!

This afternoon, I went out to get my fava beans from the freezer and walked into the garage to find the neighbor’s house guest and his dog. The dog barked at me and then started licking my legs. We started talking (the guest—not the dog) and I told him I needed to get into the freezer. He seemed a little puzzled by that so I indicated all the stuff that was on top of the lid. I should have phrased it a different way but he got the idea, anyway, and took everything off. I got my fava beans so I wouldn’t have to go out tonight, visited some more and came back to the house. Twinkle was interested in the way my legs smelled.

It’s been a hot day. I’ve been thankful for my a/c. I do think I’m going to have to get my car’s a/c looked at, though. It will put out cold air and then it will get almost hot. Not too promising. I may have to drive with the windows down. We’ll see. It’s always Something.

I thought you had a washer and dryer when you moved into your place, and just preferred drying laundry the way you were. Congratulations on getting something that will make your life easier!

I bought a washer and dryer when I moved in. The dryer quit and was fixed numerous times and the last time it went down I gave up. The timer went out on the washer so I would have to set it to wash, then go back and set it to drain and spin, then set it to rinse, etc., etc. I thought about the women with their washboards who would have been thrilled to have something that would be THAT automatic and was ashamed. I live in a different day and time, though, and Monday is a work day, not a wash day.
