When I got up this morning I hadn’t yet thought of anything to write for a post tonight. Before the day was over, it was almost written for me. I didn’t have to think twice about what to do or how to do it. I’d gone out to check on my little garden during a lull in the rain that’s been falling off and on since Friday and found that the romaine and buttercrunch seed my sister had sent me have sprouted! It started raining again so I came back in the house until the next lull so I could go out, again, and groom the romaine plants I put out last week. I don’t have to worry about it when it’s so wet. My Square Foot Garden is different because I don’t walk in it.
It slacked off so I went to the garden. Here’s what met my eyes:
That’s a little blurry because I guess my hands were shaking. I’ll have to admit I felt a bit unsettled.
From there, it only got worse but my focus was better:
It must’ve been a delicious, tasty snack:
The last two are almost identical so I’ll only post one:
Carolie had left a comment on my last SFG post giving me some advice about how to keep the deer (and other vegan animals) away but I am enough of a Pollyanna that I thought they’d stick to the succulent fare in the woods. I was wrong. That’s $6 worth of plants and some hard work that it took to teach me. I’ll go by the Farmers Co-Op tomorrow and get something to keep them away. I don’t mind sharing but sharing means I give some and keep some for myself. This is a little much, don’t you think?
Hi Tommie,
I’ve been dealing with the deer for years also. Do you have groundhogs, rabbits?? It could be one of them also..
Brenda
My neighbor said she saw a huge groundhog (maybe it had fattened up off my romaine?) between their garage and my house. That’s where my boxes are. She’s got a live trap she’s going to set and it will be moving to another area. I don’t see many rabbits around but they’re like mice. When you see one, there could be 100 more.
I’m with you. That totally wrong. Don’t lose hope though….
Thanks, Christy. It may have been a gopher she saw. Anyway, it was a raw vegan that likes romaine.
