I’m on my way to transitioning to a raw food lifestyle. I don’t have any illusions that I’m going to go 100%. If I manage to double my usual amount, I will be doing myself a favor. I don’t have any of the pictures that are seen on other raw food forums and blogs but I’ll try to post what I have if this site permits me to. I don’t weigh myself because I have the theory that size matters more than weight. Fat weighs less than muscle so I like to think that a lot of me is muscle. 🙂 I am a 61 year old female, size 16 petite (isn’t that an oxymoron?). I have hypothyroidism and am on 100 mcg Levothyroxine per day. I firmly believe that my condition came about because I was trying to control menopausal symptoms with soy and the excessively high amounts caused me to convert. Before that, I was a size 8. My BMI is ‘way up there, which is one reason that I am going this route. I want to live to see my great-granchildren which may be awhile since my oldest grandchild isn’t 10 yet.
Today’s intake has been:
2 bananas, eaten out of hand
1/2 large pear
A boiled egg with sea salt
A large salad made of
Italian greens mix
1/4 each green pepper, yellow pepper, red pepper cut into strips
1/3 smallish avocado
1/2 medium tomato
Sliced white onion
Dressing: olive oil and lime juice
Sprinkled with: sea salt
A co-worker had brought some cantaloupe to share so I had cantaloupe for lunch, too.
In the South we call it supper so, for the third meal of the day, I’ve had
Red seedless grapes
I may eat some more. I have two pineapples that are waiting to be cut up, plus a papaya. I’ll post that if I do. When and if I eat something that deviates from raw (like the egg this morning which definitely isn’t vegan, either) I’ll do it earlier in the day because I sleep better with lighter food taken in the evening.
I drink distilled water (the thyroid again–fluoride can’t be removed by most filtering means and it messes with the metabolism) off and on all day. Before I leave for work in the morning, I’ve polished off three 12 ounce glasses of warm water. I take a quart of water to work with me which I finish before I start home. I take my evening supplements and meds (low dose of hormones) (my gynecologist calls it a “dinky dose”) with another 12 ounces of warm water so that comes to about 2.5 quarts per day. I could probably do more but I eat a lot of juicy raw foods and I keep the trail to the bathroom hot. Woven into the day is the ingestion of vitamins (whole foods type), calcium (I have been diagnosed with osteopenia), and other supplements. Makes life interesting to get these into my eating schedule since I have to make sure that some are taken on an empty stomach and others separated by several hours. I guess you’d say it doesn’t take much to entertain me.
For now, this is for my own amazement. I may share it someday. It depends on how well I do and if I’m proud of myself. As for now, I wish me luck!
