Homeschooling. It sounds very Mother Earth-like. Actually, it is. The first teacher most children have is the mother whether she realizes it or not. My mother would describe children as “sponges” ready to soak up whatever was around them. I like to think of them as little tape recorders—maybe these days they’d be MP3 players with the ability to record. It can get to be a problem when they decide to play snippets back at the most inopportune moments. The thrill came from knowing what DD knew, I’d taught her.... Read more

This is aka Mac Cheese for short. My friend and faithful forum member, Shari, had her recipe posted on another site several years ago. Then, one of the members posted it on the forum right here. Shari said she’d take pictures to illustrate the steps but I’ve gotten a round tuit before she did. She gave me permission to post it. The following is our joint effort.... Read more

This is a week’s worth of time I’ll never get back. I didn’t make notes. I didn’t have time and I wasn’t so inclined anyway.... Read more

One day, DH came home brimming with excitement. He didn’t like living in the cramped little house any more than I did and he’d been asking around. One of the tips sounded very interesting and he came to get DD and me to go check it out. We piled into the Peugeot and, with directions in hand, we sallied forth.... Read more

My poor little garden is beginning to not be poor any more. It’s growing! I’ve been able to apply some worm tea to one of the boxes but I don’t remember which one it was. I should have noted it for comparison but it’s too late now. Fish emulsion in rainwater is another thing I’ve fed it. I don’t think it had enough goodies in it when I first planted. I may be overdoing it now but it seems to be thriving. Finally.... Read more

My head is about to burst! We had a guest speaker today and, after standing on the porch for an hour after church listening to him talk, I came home. I had to force myself to take time to eat and get some sun. I usually enjoy my 30 minutes outside but it was at least a couple of hours long today. I thought it would never go by so I could get inside to the computer. I have a bowl of nectarines and blueberries on the counter next to me and I’m grabbing a bite now and then. Can’t be leisurely! Gotta get this done!... Read more

Life on the mountain took on a reassuring monotony. DH went back to flying and DD and I resumed our shopping ventures, sometimes buying and sometimes just looking. The “always” was going to one of our favorite restaurants to eat. They weren’t expensive and I did so hate to pack a lunch to take along. We’d sit there, across the table from each other enjoying our food.... Read more

I’ve been asked to do some more raw vegan recipe posts complete with pictures but I haven’t had time to concoct anything, let alone photograph it. I’ll get around to it maybe this weekend but I’m not making any promises. In the meantime, I’d taken some pictures to chronicle my worm farm aka vermiculture so I took some more to complete the process. And now I’ll prepare you to meet my worms. As I said in a previous post, I’ve named them all Ralph.... Read more

After many hours, we were called back into the courtroom. DH went to the defendants’ table while his nephew, DD and I reclaimed our seats in the spectator’s section with the tell-tale bit of trash still on the floor. In all that time, it still hadn’t been cleaned. The jury filed in then there was the bailiff’s call to “all rise” while the judge entered. The command came for everyone to be seated. With the proclamation that court was in session, it was underway.... Read more
