Well hi, folks! I did a half hearted search and didn't find anything- does anyone here grow and use kombucha? I have never tried it but have an opportunity (maybe) to get a kombucha baby. I don't know much about it other than what i've read on the internet. What do you all think?

i've had it. i used to grow it. it can be pretty gross. kind of vinegarish tasting. i don't think it has what we need to eat like fresh raw food does.

I drink konbucha sometimes. I really like it. I've had homemade, but I usually buy mine at the store. It's really healthy for you. And it makes you feel great.

Have you read the ingredients? It is grown from black tea that contains caffeine and sugar. Neither one would be something I would encourage people to put into their bodies.

Supposedly there is a chemical change in the caffeine and the sugar that makes it neutral when the kombucha is ready to drink. It has been said to have very good probiotics in the resulting brew.

Don't try to like it. You might succeed and it isn't necessary for good health.

just had a very delicious glass of homemade kombucha tea. yes, there's a big difference between home made and the bottled/pasteurized/carbonated/diluted/and sweetened stuff for 4 bucks a bottle at the health food stores. they DO add sugar to many of those, if you brew your own, you can let it ferment for a little longer until ALL the sugar is absorbed. That's how I roll anyway. its not my ONLY raw food by any stretch of the imagination, but its a remarkable and significant piece of my puzzle anyway. Way better than kim chi or sauergraut, they are only similar in a general simple way, yes, they both have living enzymes. kombucha is a VERY remarkable food I have found, the more and more I learn about it. there's a LOT of really really important nutrients produced by the culture that most of us are very sadly lacking. comparing kombucha to kim chi or sauerkraut is like comparing a raddish to a chef salad.
