When I got up this morning, there were only three tissues on the bed. That means I didn’t spend a lot of time coughing. I did have to go multiple times after all the water and tea I drank.
Cuz and my CIL were gone when I got up. They got back shortly thereafter, though. I was finishing my second installment of water when they came in. They’d been to the mountain to do some more work.
After I had my first meal of the day, Cuz started on getting a corner shelf ready to hang. When she gets going, she’s fast. My CIL came in carrying it and she followed with a drill and all the things it needed to be hung.
My CIL held it in place while Cuz marked the places for the screws to go. When they got it done and things put on it, here’s what it looks like:
The clock on the top shelf was made by my brother-in-law, Paul, who was married to my sister, Anna. They lived in Seattle which later became Kenmore. He had a shop on the lower level of the house (it was built into the side of a hill so that level opened at ground level). The shop was on the back side so there were no windows in it. It was kind of like a mini-dungeon but he spent hours down there working on different things. He’d scout around for rare wood and made me a key chain that had a tag that was inscribed with “HOLLY”. It was made from holly wood. He had a droll sense of humor. He’d clamp different exotic woods together for beautiful effects. I have a skillet leveler that he made for just that purpose — to keep a skillet level on the stove.
He made mirrors for each of the sisters. Someone set a can of shaving cream on the back of mine and made an ugly ring. Eventually, the mirror gave way and I don’t know what happened to it when I moved to the mountain from Alabama.
The pictures are all of DD and there’s one of DH and DS1’s cat. DD laughed when she said she’d brought pictures of her down. Cuz will get the others when she goes back to the mountain and some rearranging will be done. I’ve asked for a few of the things that have sentimental value, too, like a couple of Mother’s pottery pieces and my soapstone vase. When the vase gets here, I’ll have to take a picture and tell the story behind it.
The UPS hadn’t been cycled since I don’t know when. Cuz unplugged it and I timed how long it stayed up. It made it for three hours before it started beeping. Not bad for as old as it is. I haven’t cycled it on a regular basis, either. I bought it more than three and a half years ago and it’s been plugged in most of that time. Granted, it only has the modem plugged into it but it’s still pretty good for how it’s been treated.
Cuz disappeared for a while after that and when she came in, she was grinning from ear to ear. She had turned on the TV and a movie was on she’d been wanting to see. She rewound it to the beginning and was able to fast-forward through the commercials. When she came to tell me about it, it was paused.
She had convinced me yesterday that she was willing to make me stuff if I’d tell her how. I’d given her the ingredients for an open-face “tuna” sandwich so she made me one for supper. Actually, she made me two but I was only able to eat one, it’s so rich. Oh! and she’d made me French toast for breakfast with The Vegg. Talk about yummy!
Tonight, Cuz came in for a visit and I showed her how to search for programs she might want to record. She said she’ll play more with it in the morning. I think I’ve convinced her that the DVR is a good thing.
A lot has happened today and tomorrow, I’ll have a shower. Guess I’d better get to bed soon.
