Until my sister emailed me on Labor Day, I was blissfully unaware that the blog was down. Evidently, it had been down most of the day. I alerted merm and she went into action. A lot of good it did. The hosting company was working on it but that was the last she heard.
Many backs and forths later, she had resolved to move to another server with a company that is more reliable. She warned me that it could be down for a week or more but it was migrated and up before long today. The last three posts were missing and she even restored them. Need I say more than merm rocks?!
And now to catch up.
When I got up on Monday, the preparation for the Labor Day feast was underway with Cuz’ sister (also my cousin) and her husband hard at work in the kitchen.
Not long after, people starting drifting in. I already knew most of them and they came in to hug and greet me.
I talked a lot off and on and was thoroughly worn out by the time the day was over. Upshot was, I was in bed much sooner than usual.
Yesterday, I spent doing some more recuperating. It was kind of a relief not to blog either day. Cuz and my CIL were busy, as they normally are. I don’t remember anything happening that was out of the ordinary so I’ll let it go at that.
My niece was due to arrive today. I had no idea she’d be landing as early as she did. I checked my email after I took my morning meds before I went back to bed. She was already in my hometown and checked into a motel. I’d never paid any attention to the available lodging but the place she chose doesn’t look half bad.
Rather than sleep (which is what I would have done), she came on to visit me after she’d settled in and gotten something to eat. Later, she told me she hadn’t slept for 36 hours so she was pretty tired.
I didn’t notice what time she got here but she had problems finding what is now home. The street sign (if there IS one) doesn’t match the name listed on maps and GPS-es. She wound up going past the turnoff. I’d emailed her the most prominent landmark and she remembered it so she turned around. It wasn’t long before she walked in the door.
We had a good visit until I started coughing. It wasn’t one of the gut-wrenching episodes I have sometimes but it was bad enough. She was most alarmed and understood that I needed to be quiet for a bit and recover. Cuz had brought me some water and gave me a pain pill. I’m so thankful my doctor prescribed them. I’m not nearly as sore as I used to be after a coughing session.
While I took a break from talking, she read. She had The Hiding Place with her and wanted to know if I’d read it. Yes, several times. She was reading a different book, though.
She showed me pictures of her children and one of the grandchildren as well as the beautiful sunrise as she was leaving Charlotte (her layover) this morning.
The man came in to set up the DVR while she was here. Once I looked at the remote, I could see why my sister was stymied by it. Even though I had a DVR ‘way back when I had the Dish, it has changed and isn’t as simple as it used to be. Or maybe I’m not remembering that it was more or less complicated then.
I can’t, for the life of me, find where I’ve set programs to record. What if I want to change something or delete it, altogether? There has to be a way but I’ve looked through the guide and searched online and NOTHING. When I try to search for something specific, it tells me the list is being updated and check back in an hour. The man told Cuz it should be done in 15 minutes. Well, it’s BEEN 15 minutes. Several times.
I’ve spent far too long trying to find where my list of things to be recorded are showing up. Only one of the two is but the second one isn’t until Monday. And it’s still updating.
Anyway, the visit was a good one and she left about 5:30 to scout out something more edible to eat and then to bed. She’ll be back tomorrow but she’ll email first to find out if I’m awake.
Cuz made a list of all the things at the store that she thought might interest me. I went through and flagged the ones that aren’t vegan. She was sure they all were but the whole list of one brand has egg whites. I was interested to find that Kashi waffles are vegan. She didn’t have them listed so I guess the store doesn’t carry them but it would be nice to have them for breakfast now and then.
I looked up the ingredients for Hellmann’s Carefully Crafted, Dressing & Sandwich Spread. Sure, it’s said to be egg free but when you click on Natural Flavor, here’s what it says:
Natural flavor is made from spice, fruit or fruit juice, vegetable or vegetable juice, edible yeast, herb, bark, bud, root, leaf or similar plant material, meat, seafood, poultry, eggs, dairy products or fermentation products.
I think I’ll stick with Just Mayo. I never liked original Hellmann’s, anyway. It always seemed to have an “off” taste to me. Just Mayo is more like Kraft and that’s what I used to buy before I became a vegan.
Supper was a burrito with tomato, onion, lettuce, Daiya cream cheese and hot sauce. That was topped off by an ice cream cone and now I’m going to have some popcorn.
My eyes show I haven’t done my exercises for a long time. I’ll either have to start them up again (which isn’t likely) or get glasses. I think a good dose of glutathione would help, too, but that’s about as likely — or not even as close — as the exercises. I’m having a hard time seeing the TV.
It’s been a long day. I don’t generally get up as early as I did this morning. I’m going to shut this down for the first time since Sunday and relax. Good night.
