Last night, I was on my way to the bathroom when it was obvious my tubing was caught on something. I was committed to my errand so I forged ahead. It popped loose and, oh, woe! The connector and my cannula tubing had parted company. There was nothing for me to do but complete my task before going back to reconnect. To say I was short of breath is an understatement.
My nurse friend came and shot me in what she referred to as my “skinny little arm”. And they both are. I’m losing muscle fast and there’s little I can do about it. I’ve emailed the therapist that I’ll let her know when/if I’ll be able to go back to rehab. In the meantime, I did 100 gentle bounces on the Cellerciser before I was too out of breath to continue.
Before that, though, and while the nurse was here, Cuz came in. I’d heard her (and her brother, I found out later) weed-eating.
She stayed for a visit after the nurse left. She didn’t have a good day yesterday. First, she sprained one of her big toes, then she bruised her leg with an out-of-control drill. To cap the stack, she scraped her finger against a screw that was sticking out hard enough to bring the blood. She planned to find out when she had her last tetanus shot.
Before she left, she emptied trash, straightened my bed and got me some cereal for breakfast. She offered to get me a cup of tea but I drink it after I get through eating. I asked her to fill the bowls on the deck so the Catz would have plenty to eat. She came back in and said she’d petted Black Tom for me, too. She left while I was trying to keep the cereal on the spoon until it got in my mouth. I failed to have her set the clock and take care of the fridge freezer but she probably wouldn’t have felt like it, anyway.
I’ve asked her to get me some Silk yogurt. I think my queasiness may come from my gut bacteria being killed off by the PPI. Bites of kimchi are, hopefully, helping but it’s spicy so I can’t eat much at once.
It’s getting increasingly hard for me to even heat up food to eat. Maybe if I could be more enthusiastic about eating but that’s beyond my capability. For supper, I had half a can of Amy’s soup and some crackers. I’m concentrating on keeping body and soul together for another two weeks.
I haven’t heard from the SSNet editor. I emailed my notice today that I’m going to have to stop working on the lessons. I’ve offered to fix errors “on the fly” but working for long periods of time is something I just can’t do any more. I hate to leave her in the lurch but the time has come. I put in a good five years.
One cause for celebration is that my sister has ordered an upgrade to a DVR! I know she’ll enjoy it. She used to program her VCR to record but the one she has now is balky. It’s been predicted she’ll be calling me for help but she’s an intelligent woman and the tech won’t leave her without showing her how it works. I hope she has him set up the first one or two programs for her or, better yet, have him walk her through it.
I must shut this down so I can lean back and breathe. I’ve been taking breaks but I do need to stop. Now.
