I was awake earlier than usual. Maybe I figured I needed to get the turkey in the oven so it would be done by mealtime — NOT! It was in my mind to get up, take my morning meds and go back to bed but that didn’t happen, either. I was thankful to have that option, anyway.
Suffice it to say, I stayed up. I had the apple pie in the oven that Marie Callender had made and I was baking. I was breaking the box down to put in the trash when Cuz came in. She said that they were all heading to her sister’s for the Thanksgiving feast in time to get there to help with the preparations.
DS1 had called me this morning to convey his holiday greetings. He told me he’s in a singing group again. It’s a male chorus. I’m glad he’s getting back into it. He’s been under the weather lately and has a cough that is hanging on. I can relate. I asked him if he was going to have turkey and he said yes — there was a dead body in the fridge. YUCK!!
Yesterday, I’d found out that some of the videos I wanted to see on Netflix were being taken down December 1 so I decided I’d watch a couple of them, at least. One was The Paw Project. I used to feel so sorry for Twinkle because she’d been declawed. After I found out what the process is, I vowed I’d never do that to a cat. It’s been banned in eight cities in California over the protests of many of the vets. It’s illegal in many parts of the world and is considered mutilation (which it is).
I took a break from my marathon and fixed MY Thanksgiving feast. I had Cedar Lake Chops breaded with Cedar Lake Breading Meal, mashed potatoes with gravy, asparagus and cauliflower with Just Mayo and Dijon “Hollandaise”. After all that, I had a tiny sliver of pie and it is sickeningly sweet. I was hoping to find a Mrs. Smith’s pie but she doesn’t send them to Walmart. The chocolate chips I topped it off with toned down the sugar.
Cuz came to report on their celebration. There was a smaller crowd than usual but she had, as always, laid claim to the turkey carcass. She puts it in a big pot with water and assorted veggies and cooks it until the meat falls off the bone. Sounds yummy? I don’t think so.
She asked if I got any other phone calls today and I said no, but that I figured one out of three isn’t too bad. DD and her SO were going to merm’s for dinner. I’m sure they were too busy to think about anything else and DS2, well, he’s not too communicative, anyway.
There will be lots of leftovers tomorrow. Black Friday has already started in some stores but REI isn’t participating this year. And just so you know, neither am I.
