Washing Away

It isn’t always that my theories don’t pan out but mine didn’t last night. I think the bath warmed me up too much and I didn’t sleep well because of it. I’ll have to be careful after this and take a hot soak ONLY if it’s very cool where I’m sleeping. The overall temperature has been higher the last day or two and the heaters haven’t even been coming on much.

The rain has rained all around today. Cuz went out to the water meter and tried to turn the water off so she could work on the leak at the tub but she couldn’t budge it. The whole meter was under water. She was unaware that there’s a cutoff under the house so she’ll try that another day.

Once, when she came over, there was a break in the downpour but it opened up again just as she was leaving. The wind’s blown a lot, too, and had been blowing the cot on the deck around. She bungeed it to the railing so it won’t travel any more. It was making quite a racket at times.

She’s been threatening me with a “grab-it” and she brought it over today. It’s pretty much identical to this one. Now, hopefully, I won’t have to bend over to pick things up.

My sister was listing what she had for supper and it included cornbread. I guess this is as good a place as any to tell about watching a program the other day where a couple was out on the town in Nashville. When they were looking at the menu in a barbecue joint, the woman informed the man that she was a “kind of” vegetarian. Well, she ate fish but nothing else from the animal kingdom. He said they could go somewhere else but she said no, she’d be able to make a meal from the side dishes. When her meal came, it was a banana, a bowl with what looked like sliced boiled potato and a square of cornbread. She said, “Who knew they’d put pork fat in everything?” Welcome to the South, honey. I wouldn’t have eaten the cornbread since it most certainly had eggs and dairy in it. And maybe pork fat.

I checked Weatherbug and the elementary school in the valley has gotten almost an inch and a half of rain in the past 24 hours. I think we got that here in one cloudburst.

Today hasn’t been high up on the productive scale. I started taking two Nexium this morning. This evening, I was launching into a coughing episode when Cuz walked in. I kept at it for several minutes. She figures it’s small potatoes compared to her construction partner’s. If so, I guess I can be thankful.

My new toaster got here today and I hope it does better than the last three I’ve had. I used it at supper and had to toast the bread twice but it was on a lower setting. No use burning it the first time, right?

I have a yen for something chocolate but it’s ‘way too late to be eating anything so I’ll have to wait until morning. I’ve found the 85% chocolate I got at ALDI makes a good cuppa hot chocolate so maybe that’s what I’ll do — tomorrow.

Unfortunately it’s not just the South that puts meat in veggies, although it’s more common here.

True. Here, it’s all about the bacon grease.
