Congratulations to Genese, the winner of the ceramic knife set! The random number generator at random.org picked the first of her three entries! Woohoo! I have sent Genese an email asking for her mailing address. If I don’t hear from her in one week’s time, another person will be picked to receive the knives.
Can a cook (or uncook) have too many knives? I don’t think so but some might think I do. I have a bunch of them—or should I say an arsenal? Whatever. When I was contacted by Abundant Chef, and asked to pick out any of their products for review, I didn’t think twice. The ceramic knife set.
The set consists of four knives and one vegetable peeler. This is my first foray into ceramic kitchen weaponry. I’d looked at them on Amazon but the price was always a bit too rich for my budget. Therefore, I’m a virgin when it comes to ceramics. Oh, I have ceramic cookware and ceramic doo-dads my kids brought home from school but no knives for preparing food.
I was careful to read the cautions on the back of the package. The knives can be damaged by any number of things. They should always be used with a cutting board—plastic or wood (and that would include my favorite, bamboo). No glass, please. Take care not to drop the knives onto any hard surface (or soft, for that matter). They are not impervious to chipping, cracking or breaking. However, they never need sharpening and are made of a diamond-hard material.

My request for pictures was promptly fulfilled.
This is a brave person chopping celery on an Abundant Chef bamboo cutting board.
Here is an assortment of knife cuts done with a ceramic knife.

And then we go to the vegetable peeler. Now, I’ll have to be honest. I’m not enamoured with this kind of peeler. I’ve never used one before this and it’s awkward in my hand. My favorite variety of potato is Kennebec and they are not uniform. Perhaps if I’d tried it with something else, I would have had better luck. The person demonstrating it in these pictures seems to have no problem.

Now, here’s the skinny on the giveaway. The winner will receive a knife set just like the one pictured. It’s valued at $69.99 but is currently on sale for less than half that price. Each of my readers will get a coupon code good for a discounted price on any of the Abundant Chef’s products.
Here’s how to win. First of all, you can’t win if you don’t enter. To enter, leave me a comment on your favorite type of knife—butcher, paring, serrated, steak, whatever. I must have a valid email address for notifying the winner. Your address will not be shared or even seen by anyone but me. For a second entry, share this post on Facebook and prove it by posting the link in another comment. To do this, just click on the time of your post (2 mins or however long it is) and copy the URL. For a third entry, share it on Twitter and prove it the same way (people who do this are really going to make me work).
The giveaway begins as soon as this post goes live and continues until midnight CDT (that’s the same as Tommie Time) April 12. The winner will be picked at random from all entries. Those with three entries will, of course, have better odds than those with one so get in there and SHARE!
And now for the legalities…Note that I’m not being paid for this post, however Abundant Chef did supply this set of knives so I could review them.
serrated for me!
My favorite knife at the moment is: a JA Henckels 7″ Santoku. Now if I can figure out Twitter!
I tend to use a paring knife for everything. It gets the job done. SO much so that sometimes I find myself struggling to do something silly like cut a pineapple in half and realize oh, duh, I should grab a different knife!
Hey Solducky. You might need to try our Ceramic knives then. They are sure not to disappoint you. Plus we are having a weekend offer which could interest you. Let me know your thoughts
So do you get to keep the ones you tried? Neat, if you do!
Yes. Are you entering? If so, you need to specify what kind of knife is your favorite.
My favourite is the 5 Inch Ceramic Cutlery Utility Knife, I use it for almost everithing
My favorite has to be the pairing knife. It can get into the nitty gritty and is not hard to handle at all! Such a cute little knife ☺️
I think the one I use is an 8″ chef’s knife? Probably needs sharpening, come to think of it.
My favorite knife is a Chinese butcher knife. Ya know that blockie thick knife. The moment I got that knife it quickly became my favorite. And I use that one for everything.
