Summertime, More of the Same

Whether or not my cousin was here this morning, I don’t know. I didn’t see anyone and no one made herself known. The Catz haven’t begged for food so I’m assuming they were fed.

It was sunny but not as hot as yesterday. This afternoon, Weatherbug was chirping again. It was giving the warning for thunderstorms in the area. Sound effects were accompanied by lots of rain—the valley got almost 2″. Power went off repeatedly but would come right back on. Thanks to my trusty UPS, I still had Internet and phone service.

One of my sisters had been out and about yesterday and emailed about all of her activities. The other emailed back, “What you did today was much better than staying home!” Well, I tend to disagree. I am thoroughly enjoying staying at home. I went, most times, six days a week for 24.5 years and I’m still not caught up from it.

I’d intended to go to town but the storms kind of put the kibosh on that. I’ve gotten more accomplished today than the past few so maybe I’ll take tomorrow for Shopping. If I don’t, I surely won’t starve. If it weren’t for fresh stuff, I’d just eat what I have here but I finished the last mango along with polishing off the broccoli.

Twinkle is a funny cat. She’ll have food put in her dish and won’t finish it. It stays there until she thinks it’s inedible and refuses it. Then I take a tiny bit of of food from the can and smear it on what’s already there and she eats it! Gotta finish it all, girl! It’s too expensive to waste.

HoveroundI actually went to the mailbox this afternoon. The sum total of mail was a questionnaire to determine if I could use a Hoveround. The only question I could answer in the affirmative was that I have a Medicare plan that would cover it. I’m not quite there yet, folks. I’m sending the paperwork back in the postpaid envelope and am requesting they take my name off the mailing list.

Sabbath is Women’s Ministry Day at church. The pianist is in charge of getting special music together so since it’s almost my swan song time, she asked me to play a duet with her. I suggested “Gentle Shepherd”. She called to make sure of what we’re playing. They recently put a window air conditioner in their kitchen. It’s a good thing since she was canning green beans.

Well, the temperature is “down” to 81. That’s after a high of 83 here in the living room.

Going out for fun times with friends is a lot different from going to work every day. The sister referred to had a lot of those work years, too, but sometimes home can be a lonely place.

My lonely times are few and far between, thankfully.

Maybe when you’ve been retired for 21 years you’ll be ready to go somewhere just for pleasure! Kind of nice now and then, even if you dragged your heels at first.

When I’ve been retired for 21 years, I’ll be knockin’ 90. I’ll just have to wait and see. 🙂
