A Merry Christmas Eve

And that’s what I’m having.

Christmas CatI’ve washed towels and have another load of laundry in the dryer even as I write. I turned down an invitation to go to the Christmas party my cousin throws every year. She has it at her construction partner’s house because there’s more room. The only time I’ve been, I didn’t get home until around midnight and that’s living just a little too far on the wild side for me.

My cousin came over for a few minutes today and I gave her the guided tour of the dishwasher. She said we had a little snow. Yeah. “Little” is the word for it. If I squinted and looked sideways, I could see a few flakes falling. Later, the sun came out. When I got up, the temperature was 23. The high was 33 but now it’s down to 20. I DON’T LIKE WINTER.

My sisters are curious about what I’m doing tomorrow. I’ll say this much. I’m staying home. Anyone who wants to see me will have to come here.

I had three very overripe bananas that needed to be used so I made some banana nut muffins for the first time in many a year. There was batter left over when I got through filling the muffin pan so I baked the extra in a little CorningWare dish. It was so good, I overdid it and ate the whole little loaf. I should be ashamed but I’m not. If I make it again, I’ll reduce the amount of sugars (I used organic whole sugar and evaporated cane juice). It’s right on the edge of being too sweet. The recipe can be found here. She said she edited the amount of sugar but doesn’t go into whether it was too much or two little before.

Since I was in a baking mood, I mixed up some dough for Crunchy Artisan Bread. The amount of yeast seems very small but other people have made it and no one said it wasn’t enough. I have it sitting on the shelf above my salt lamp so I hope it will be warm enough tonight.

My dishwasher-that-works made the cleanup so easy! I didn’t even rinse the bowl I used for the banana muffins and it came out nice and clean. There wasn’t any residue on the other dishes, either.

When I was putting the ointment on Twinkle today, I found another bare spot. I’m wondering if that’s a side effect of the steroids, as well. According to this article, steroids can do it but so can hyperthyroidism. She’s been pretty listless today. I mixed some molasses with her water and she drank some but there have been no results since yesterday. She has plain water, too, but (to my knowledge) she hasn’t touched it.

Sixty years ago, I would have been too excited to sleep. Now, it’s “Ho-hum” rather than “HO HO HO!” How times do change. I hope for you and yours that you will have the celebration you want or, if you aren’t into it, none at all. For Twinkle and me, we’re staying put.
