My Eighth Vegan Anniversary

Eight years ago today, I started eating only raw vegan food. It wasn’t that difficult but later I found I was doing it all wrong. I had a lot to learn during the next almost five years. At the end of that time, I still hadn’t “perfected” my diet. That’s when I started eating some cooked. While I don’t eat 100% raw any more, I am still vegan. That isn’t difficult, either, and I’m glad I stuck with it.

Today is Roger Haeske’s 46th birthday. He’s a little over six months younger than DS2. His claim to fame is that he is the world’s oldest “teenajer” and the author of Savory Veggie Stews. During the early days, he was also my raw food coach and I can give him credit for my being able to transition so easily.

Now to more routine things. I hadn’t been able to find a place to drop off the disastrous juicer I got from Amazon. I sat me down at the computer and entered a request for a pickup. When it went through, I was horrified to find that it was going to cost $13.76 for UPS to come to my house and put the package in the truck.

I was agonizing over the situation. If I didn’t get it back to Amazon soon, I’d be stuck with it and I didn’t want it. Going outside, my CIL saw me and asked if I would follow him to town so he could drop off his truck. I told him about my UPS dilemma and he figured we could find some place we could leave it.

Later, he came over and told me he wouldn’t take the truck until tomorrow but he was going to the other valley. Did I want him to take the package with him? Did I!! I came in and canceled the scheduled pickup and gave him the package with instructions to take it to the hospital and ask for my friend in materials management. She could give it to the UPS man when he came by. I called and left voice mail for her so it wouldn’t take her by surprise.

After he left, there was a knock on the door. It was two UPS men. Maybe they thought the package was a huge one. I told them I’d canceled the pickup and they left.

When I saw my CIL was home, I called and asked him if everything went okay. Yes, and the girl at the window wanted to know how I was doing. She said I should come in sometime.

My rebounding entertainment was season 5 episode 12 and it included this song. I had to look it up.

The Dillards were good at pickin’ and Maggie Peterson had a nice voice.

I’ve been largely without energy today and haven’t gotten much done. I vaselined my ears again and it helped. Twinkle has been dosed and fed so I guess it’s time for me to call it a day.

Andy was good on both pickin’ and singin’, too! Too bad TV programs are not as good and decent as they were in the good ol’ days.

True on all three counts. You can watch your DVDs and I can watch on Netflix so we’re covered. One of my Facebook friends saw a picture of Andy, Opie and Aunt Bea on my page and didn’t know who they were! This younger generation. 😕
