December 8, 2012
When I was visiting DD and merm, I wore a pair of DD’s blue jeans. They fit me almost sorta kinda perfectly. She’d gotten them at Kohl’s so I took note of what size and style they were. I figured I could order them online. The closest Kohl’s to me is some 40 miles away, one way. I don’t go that far just to buy blue jeans. We looked them up on my netbook and she verified the ones pictured there were like the ones she had. Okay. They were on sale, too, but I didn’t go ahead and order them right then.
When I DID get around to ordering them, they had gone up enough that I had second and third thoughts and ended up without anything. Then…on Cyber Monday…
Kohl’s was having a Super Sale. They didn’t call it that but it was. I was able to get the jeans at less than half the usual price so I ordered two pairs. I couldn’t wait for them to get here.
I emailed DD about my purchase. I didn’t mention it when we visited on Sunday because they hadn’t arrived. We had a good visit but it was shorter than usual. She and merm were going out to eat and take in a movie.
I’d been up late the night before so I was pretty much out of it all day. Whatever it is about blogging gets me wound up and it’s hard to relax. I hope to be able to sleep tonight.
Monday, my electric bill came. It used up the rest of my credit balance and there will be a bank draft of $42 on or around the 15th. In January, it will be back to $208 a month. My reprieve is over.
That afternoon, it got up to 68 degrees. I went out and played in the dirt for a little while and pulled some weeds. It was wonderful but it makes me wonder what next month and February will be like. I’ve heard the winter is supposed to be warmer than usual but then I’ve heard natural gas prices have jumped because of the prediction of extreme cold. If black walnuts are any indication, it will be the latter. There’s been a bumper crop.
You know how proud I was of my Wordscraper board…
Genese told me she had one waiting in the wings. She makes me sick.
Mousie was running through the house again. Twinkle was peacefully lying on her heating pad and sleeping through it. I pushed her off the chair and told her to get with the program. She went to work with a vengeance but, true to form, as soon as she wore Mousie out, she ignored said creature until it had rested up and scampered away. I’m beginning to think they are playmates. I’ve also wondered if it’s helping itself to Twinkle’s food.
The last time my car was serviced was too long ago. I made an appointment for getting ‘er done on Wednesday. While they were at it, they also replaced the air filter (I think it still had the original one) and thinned the anti-freeze so it would be good down to -29 degrees. I sat in the little waiting area and read for a bit but I finished out the time out in the sun. It was a beautiful day.
That morning I’d been thinking I’d been fuyu-less for more than a year and wondered if I’d finish out 2012 that way. I’d contacted Dario and he said he’d check his crop and get back to me but I didn’t hear anything else. There were only a few things on my list for Walmart (I’d already been to Bi-Lo). I’d made the circuit of the store and was ready to check out when, for some unknown reason, I veered into the produce department again. What I saw made me gasp, literally! There was a flat of fuyus staring right at me! Instead of getting them and leaving, I went back to the cold room where the produce is stored and called out, “YOOHOO!” DD would have probably died of embarrassment right then and there but I’m shameless when fruit’s involved. Two people came out and asked what I needed. Did they have any more fuyus? The produce guy took me and showed me what I’d already seen. That was all that was in stock but they could special order me some.
Now, when it comes to fuyus, it’s every person for him/herself. If you snooze, you lose. I picked through them and got 10 passable ones. I’ll admit I may be wrong (I thought I was once but I was mistaken) but I believe God loves to see His children happy as, as one of them, what made me happy at that moment was FUYUS!
I brought my treasures home and finished out the day. And then some. I was so wound up (it doesn’t take much for me, I’ve found) I didn’t go to sleep until after 3 a.m.
Thursday, I was pretty wiped out. I did make it to the mailbox and was pleased to see my Kohl’s purchases. I opened one of the bags but I was too out of it to try the jeans on.
Yesterday, I took the tags off one pair and was going to wash them. They looked a little big so I checked the size. It was what I’d ordered. I held them up to me. When they touched the floor, the band was even with where my bishy-bahs (my young sons’ word for the female chest parts) used to be. There was no way they could be the right size. I read the description online—30″ inseam. I got out my tape measure. It’s 32″. I called DD and she said she thought she got petite. I looked online. No petite sizes were listed for that style. I emailed the company but I haven’t heard back.
One of my sisters emailed the other sister’s computer had quit working. I called the one with the ailing electronics and figured out it was a dead monitor. She still had lights on the tower so it couldn’t be that. She’d have to do without for the time being.
Last night I was so tired—I guess I hadn’t completely recovered from Wednesday night—I went to bed before 8:30. It was after 7 when I got up. I’d had some strange dreams about my mother and my sisters.
I made it to church on time. It was a good service. During the prayer time, I requested prayer for me for Tuesday when I have an appointment for a hearing exam. I talked to the pianist after we finished playing the postlude. She told me her father-in-law has hearing aids and is bothered a lot by the amplification of background noise. I’m hoping, if I do end up with an aid or aids, that won’t be a problem.
Following the fellowship meal, my cousin and her husband and another couple and I were talking about hearing aids and my cousin-in-law said his dad has a Bluetooth aid that is wonderful. Looking online, I found some that were also a wonderful price.
We were discussing different home remedies and I mentioned my mother used to give me a big dollop of Vicks Vaporub to swallow if I had a cold. It was only when I was an adult I read on the jar “For external use only”. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger? Peroxide was listed as a must have in the medicine cabinet and, my personal favorite, tea tree oil. My CIL wasn’t familiar with that. The other couple was, though, and vouched for its effectiveness.
There’s a little “DING!” that alerts me when an email comes in. Tonight when I heard that sound and checked my messages, there were TWO from my sister with the dead monitor! She had fiddled with the connections on the monitor, itself, and it had come on! Something interesting—the warranty expired yesterday. May it stay resurrected.
Well, this time next week, I’ll be better educated about ears in general. I’m looking forward to Tuesday. It’s one exam I don’t dread.
