My Week: Jobless No More!

Let me see if I can remember back to last Sunday. I was still puny. I don’t know when I have been puny for so long. Except for some high spots, this week has been about as do-less as last.

Hmmmmmmmm. Sunday. Oh, yes. DD emailed me that she was going to a potluck and could she call me after she got back. I told her sure but it was not to be. I’d juned around and done what absolutely had to be done and about did myself in. When she emailed that she was home, I elected to visit the next day.

When we WERE able to talk, she told me she had been to an interview with a staffing agency and it had gone well. I started praying in earnest. This was the first job that she’d gone for that really seemed right. There had been others she had applied for but either the hours were weird, the pay was low or both. None of them had panned out, anyway, so it wasn’t a matter of deciding whether or not to take one of them.

The next day, she posted on Facebook that she’d gotten the position and would be mostly working from home. She’ll have to go in once a week. The benefits are standard as far as employment goes. The only thing is, she doesn’t like it that she won’t have any days designated as sick. If she has to take a sick day, it will come out of her vacation time. To me, that’s a small matter and, as her mother, I am very relieved that she is a member of the workforce. Praise the Lord!

Tuesday was a weepy day, rain-wise. Wednesday, it rained buckets. My neighbor was out trying to channel it away from the buildings and I had no idea what was going on. I knew it was raining and raining hard but, other than one clap of thunder, it seemed nothing out of the ordinary.

I gathered myself up and went to see Genese in the nursing home before prayer meeting that night. On the way to her room, I was spied by the fellow who used to watch for me when I went to get the mail. He likes to shake my hand so I wasn’t surprised when he called me over. I shook hands with him, then he pulled my hand up and planted a big kiss on the back of it. Better there than anywhere else, I guess.

It was after my bedtime when I got home and considerably later when I turned in.

Thursday, I was outside quite a bit. It had cleared off, turned cooler and the wind was blowing. I’d gotten some things done around the house that morning so I wasn’t totally unproductive.

Yesterday, I talked to DD briefly and she said she was all set up for working from home and was on her way to meet with Human Resources. I was back to feeling kind of icky so I went to bed early. This morning, I was awake by 5:30 but lay in bed for another hour.

I was almost late getting out the door this morning and it was my bathroom clock’s fault. I’d set it when the time changed (which, for the first time, has little effect on me) and it was already 10 minutes slow. I changed the battery tonight.

Getting home from church, I stuffed myself until I was miserable. Monday and Wednesday, I’d made applesauce and put 23 containers in the freezer. I got one out, thawed it and ate the whole thing. THEN I ate my fava beans and a whole meal on top of that. Shortly before sundown, I had to go lie down.

My phone in the bedroom works but it didn’t ring when my neighbor called me. I heard the phone in the kitchen but by the time I answered, it had gone to voice mail. I called her back and she said she was coming this way with a couch and love seat for my living room. A chair is to follow.

An hour later, more or less, she called and said she was here. She and their Garage Guest muscled them into the house. I’ve gone from a living room that was a gym to one that has more furniture than I know what to do with. Now I’ll have to get new curtains. The ones in there don’t go at all and that’s fine because I’ve never liked them anyway.

Well, folks, that’s been my week. Tomorrow starts another one. No telling what it will hold.

Congratulations on the furniture! That’s the kind of neighbor to have.
