Going to Prison Chapter 2

I finally have some pictures to share and permission from everyone concerned. So…here goes.

The first one is of my friend before he lost a lot of weight, the pastor and his wife. If he had looked like this when I saw him, I would have had no problem recognizing him. I don’t know how long ago it was taken but it was many many lubs ago (though he would refer to them as pounds).

He sent me two pictures of himself and a fellow prisoner who is, I gather, now living on the outside. He talked to his friend today who also gave permission. Here’s what I got in the latest email:

“it’s ok if you post our picture. he is one great guy. we were here together for 9 years and he was a true dependable friend every day. never changing. the same unselfish person. that makes him special. he made my time here count for something. he encouraged me to take college courses, all the other programs available and helped me understand them. he never missed one workout even when he didn’t feel like working out. i would not be as healthy and in the condition I’m in mentally and physically if i hadn’t known him. one special true friend.”

Best friends

And now, here’s the one of the two of us. I have gained too many lubs. I’ll blame it on stress. All that aside, it was really good to visit and, if I have the chance, I’ll visit again.

My friend and yours truly

The quality of the pictures isn’t the best. He has to pay for them ahead of time and evidently the prison tries to save space on the SD card by cutting the size of the file. As usual, if you want to see them larger, click on them and they will open in a new window in Flickr.

As I said in the original post, there’s no air conditioning in the living quarters so, during the summer months, he keeps his head shaved.

Until next time!

So glad for the pictures. What a physical transformation in your friend!

Yes, it’s quite amazing. He gave me permission to post the “before” picture with the hope that it would inspire someone else to improve. He’s quite a person but now he’s only half the man he used to be. 🙂 I have another picture the pastor’s wife sent me. It’s of the four of us. I’ll put it up when I have time.
