I’m already on the verge of wanting to go to bed so this won’t be very long, I hope. One never knows, though, does one?
Sunday, I had my stay-at-home day but didn’t get nearly as much accomplished as I thought I would. I told my sister I celebrated by putting new sheets on the bed. I missed my visit with DD because they had gone into town and got back too late for me to call. I haven’t had time to call her since, either. My new routine makes my days very short since I have to be in bed by 8:45, 9 at the latest. I can’t call her in the morning because she is three hours behind me. I don’t think she would appreciate being awakened at 2 a.m. to talk to anyone.
The weather was pretty nasty so I couldn’t hang my laundry on the line. It’s so nice to have the racks my neighbor got for me. They make drying clothes inside much easier.
Now to the sheets…They are all cotton but they were so itchy I put another doubled sheet over ‘n’ under them so I could sleep. I Googled “cotton allergy” but all I could find is that an allergy to cotton is highly unlikely so it’s probably something in the sizing. I have three sets of sheets now that are all cotton that make me itch. I guess I’ll have to wash them over and over and over to get all the chemicals out. I’m going to check out sheets at Goodwill tomorrow. That’s what I should have done long ago and didn’t.
Monday was merm’s 34th. He does like kelp noodles but doesn’t like the price he has to pay out there so I ordered some for him along with some for me the Thursday before. I knew they wouldn’t get there in time for the birthday but I let him know his gift would be late. The restaurant packs aren’t on the web site so I have to contact the woman at the company to get them. I very carefully gave her his information and asked her to put a message in the box and not the invoice. The next day, I got two emails from UPS saying my packages would be delivered me on March 31. I was horrified. I called when I got home and she took my number and said she’d call me back. When she called, she assured me she was sending him his and me mine. The next day, I checked the tracking and the links on both emails said they were on time for my address. I waited until Monday and called her again. Again she reassured me everything was okay. Tuesday, I checked again. Both links said my address. I called her the third time the next afternoon. As soon as she answered the phone, she asked, “Is there a problem?” I told her UPS STILL had my address as the destination. She told me not to worry. He would get his birthday present and I would get one case. I said I’d be patient and quit checking. I happened to think after all this to compare the tracking numbers in the emails and they were identical. Wednesday evening, I got an email from merm that he had received his present. Thursday, I got mine. WHEW! The lady there has the patience of Job. Anyone else would have probably wanted to strangle me.
Yesterday was April Fool’s Day and I managed to pull one good one. I had been cooking it up for a couple of days and almost didn’t get to see it through. The maintenance man who put my windshield wipers on is quite the kidder. He will tell a tall tale with a straight face and have a person almost believing him. I have a hard time telling if he’s pulling my leg or not. After he put the wipers on, he told me I should take them off when it wasn’t raining and put them in the trunk so they would last longer. Now, that I knew was hogwash. I’ve been enjoying driving in the rain (as much as that CAN be enjoyed) because the wipers are so nice. On the appointed day for my scheme to get him back, I didn’t see him ever. I finally called the nursing home nurses’ station and asked if they’d seen him. He was right there. He got on the phone and I identified myself and continued, “I’ve been looking for you all day.” He ‘lowed that I hadn’t been looking in the right place. I said, “You know the windshield wipers you put on for me…” “Yes.” “Well, this morning when I was on my way to work, I turned them on and the one on the driver’s side came off and flipped out into a cow pasture. I was going to go after it but there was a big bull in the field.” He kind of hemmed and hawed and I asked, “Well, what are you going to do about it?” He said, “You asked me to put them on and I did.” “Aren’t you going to go get it back for me?” “I don’t know where it is.” “It’s about six miles out toward my place.” “On the right or on the left?” “The right.” He was still objecting so I said, “If you are going to be that way about it, I will just say APRIL FOOL!!” He wanted to know if it was still on the car. I said yes. Then he said, “Sure ’nuff—it didn’t come off?” Pleased with my success, I assured him it hadn’t. It was much funnier at the time. You would have had to be there.
The weather has been cold and dreary all week up until yesterday afternoon late. The clouds parted long enough for me to see the sun for a little while. It was a welcome sight.
Today has been sunny and almost warm. Church today was a DVD. The message was good, but every time the speaker paused, there was a buzzing that just about put me to sleep. I noticed other people were fighting to stay awake, too.
I’d thought I’d get out in the sun after I got home but the wind was blowing and it wasn’t warm enough to overcome it. Later, I went outside to see if any of the volunteer dill was up enough to use. My neighbor was sitting on her back steps so I went over for a short visit. By then, it felt good in the sun.
My Wordscraper opponent and I have four games going right now. She’s winning one—probably two—for sure. She let me start first on one (finally) and I’ve got it in the bag. The other one is up for grabs.
Well, this is about it. I ate too much for supper and it’s getting on toward bedtime. I’m yawning big time. G’night, all!
