The Next Awesome Rawsome Giveaway!

Before I reveal what the next giveaway is, I need to put out an APB on Sharon who won the last one. It’s been a week since I emailed her the first time and I still don’t have an address. I emailed a second notice this morning and if I don’t hear from that one within another week, I’ll take her name off the list of people who left eligible comments and do another random pick. Now to the business at hand:

Book CoversThis giveaway is special for two reasons. First, my forum friend, Shari, donated books for me to pass on to a lucky person and second, this is a two-fer. The combined value is just about $34. Nomi Shannon’s The Raw Gourmet sells for $16.47 right now. Shazzie’s detox delights isn’t quite so readily available. It’s priced at $9 plus shipping for one new copy and a used one for $14.99 plus shipping. Go figure. If you click on the link to Nomi Shannon’s book, you can read some of the recipes.

The little detox delights has recipes that run the gamut of simple to more complex, no overt fat to fatty. To me, they would perhaps detox someone who was used to eating cooked but (and this is just my opinion) an actual detox would leave off the fatty foods and concentrate more on fruit and greens. Even though the title says “gourmet” (which I associate with inadvisable combinations and lots of fat), many of the recipes are optimal right out of the book or can be easily adapted. I don’t agree with absolutely everything in either one of these books but I can pick and choose. We’re all free to do that.

    Ok Tommie, my e-mail address is showing in the e-mail box that says it won’t be posted, but is required, so there’s one of the qualifications to enter this. Now to the recipe part.

    Eye Healing Smoothie

    2 cups orange juice
    2 oz kale
    14 oz mango
    1-2 cups water
    Blend until it looks creamy, about 1+ minute.

    0 overt fats and optimally combined. 🙂

    I believe this meets the qualifications.

      As for the recipe, I’ll have to try it. Sounds like a killer smoothie! I don’t have access to good kale and mine is still tiny. I should have planted it earlier. The recipes don’t all have to be optimal but I do appreciate your taking that into consideration.

    Address says it’s there again, so here’s a recipe.

    Tangy Strawberry Smoothie

    1 lb strawberries
    1-2 cups water
    1-2 cups orange juice
    2-3 big handfulls spinach

    0 overt fats and optimally combined

    I usually make more rather than the smaller amounts.

    My favorite raw food recipe:
    Guacamole Zuchini Spaghetti- I created this out of boredom and love of avocado

    1 zuchini
    1 package of kelp noodles
    1 avocado
    1 heirloom tomato
    3 cloves garlic
    half lemon juice
    celtic sea salt to taste
    half an onion

    Combine all ingredients besides zuchini and noodles to make a guacamole. Spiralize one zuchini and combine with kelp noodles- add celtic sea salt. Mix all ingredients in a large bowl and devour!

      I hadn’t thought about mixing zucchini pasta with the kelp noodles. That would definitely make them go farther.

    Salsa Salad:

    2-3 diced plum tomatoes, or large slicer tomato
    1/4 C sliced green onions
    1 or 2 jalapeno peppers, or other hot peppers, to taste
    1 C peeled & diced cucumber
    1 C celery sliced thin
    1 C red or yellow bell pepper
    1 C diced zucchini or butternut squash
    sprinkle of salt, to taste (optional)

    Combine everything and serve with
    4 or 5 oz (3 to 4 C) of your favorite leafy greens,
    such as lettuce, spinach or kale.

    Feel free to vary amounts and ingredients to your heart”s content.

      Looks yummy and you got that one in just in time! Thanks, Dwain. I’ve never had raw butternut squash. Is it sort of crunchy and sticky?
