I wasn’t planning to do a post about gardening tonight but here I am, doing exactly that. Makes me realize how quickly my direction can change. All the twists and turns of life.
I was inspecting the progress of the watermelons when I discovered the stem had died on this one:
It looks like it’s still green but it isn’t. My hand on it is to give an idea of the size. I washed it and readied for the killing. When I cut it, it popped.
The texture was quite mealy, probably because it didn’t get as much moisture at the beginning that it needed. I had to take a bite.
It wasn’t the best melon I ever tasted but not the worst, either. I took the other half to my neighbor. She tasted it and pronounced it “not bad”. Then she stowed it in the fridge so it would get cold before she tries any more. When I got back to the house, I did the same thing with the rest of my half.
Before I did anything else, I went exploring again and actually found several ripe cherry tomatoes.
I haven’t tried any of them. I’ll take them to work so I can share my personal produce with the girls. So…that’s my update for tonight. Just had to tell the world about it!
I’m ready for another watermelon myself! Maybe yours will taste even better when it’s cold.
I hope so! I eat watermelon EVERY DAY! Remember my salad container? I take it full of watermelon to work for my lunch.
Congratulations on the watermelon and ‘maters! Hope there will still be more.
Not any more than I’m hoping! I do have a good supplier, though. I bought $3 worth of organically grown tomatoes this afternoon and got a whole bunch–several lubs. Also got two good-sized watermelons and I was gifted with one smaller than the one I cut yesterday.
I counted my tomatoes I bought this afternoon and I got 20 for $3. They’re small (one is very small). I may be all wet but I think the small ones have a better flavor.
