Fred and the Balsamic Vinegar
May 10, 2008
I got an e-mail yesterday alerting me that Frederic Patenaude had sent out his daily message urging the troops on with the Spring Cleanse. I appreciate his mentioning me and my blog. What bothered me was the exaggeration quoted here:
So here’s what I ate today (note the quantities are not
recommendations –most people will eat less):Breakfast: 4-5 delicious Haitian mangoes
Lunch: Delicious smoothie made with about 8-9 bananas and
1-2 cups of blackberries (proof that the simplest recipes
are the best)
Snack: Oranges
Dinner: A few mangoes followed by a spinach salad consisting
of a big bowl of spinach with the following dressing:1 mango
1 1/2 cups of cherry tomatoes
1 Tbs. Balsamic vinegarYes, balsamic vinegar isn’t exactly “raw” but it’s an
acceptable condiment on salads to make a decent concoction
and get you through the cleanse! In fact, one of my students, Tommy, swears she’s
eaten “gallons” of this dressing and that it really helped
her go raw. In fact, check out her awesome blog at:
http://www.reallyrawfood.com/
This is the first post where I mention the dressing and how good it is. I’ve made it since with balsamic vinegar and I must say it’s tastier with lime juice. So…that’s the tale of Fred and the Balsamic Vinegar. I wanted to get the facts straight. I’ve possibly eaten quarts of the dressing but it would be a stretch to say I’ve had “gallons” of it. And certainly not gallons made with vinegar.

Tommy,
I’ll have to try your version of the dressing! It sounds yummy. Yes, lime sounds much better and yes, if you have never had something how can you compare? I’d rather not try the vinegar!

Hey, Tommie!
I got that same email from Fred. I thought that was ‘funny’ because I am pretty sure I have read most, if not all, of your blog and I don’t remember you saying anything about GALLONS:)……anyway, it was indeed GREAT that he mentioned your Blog!!! I LOVE that - you can’t ‘buy’ that kind of promotion
HAPPY MOM’S DAY to you, Tommie
Hugs,
Susan

Now listen, Floopy! My name is not spelled like the male version so you can stop that!
The lime note was printed in “Instant Raw Sensations” as an option. Don’t know why he changed it. And I don’t usually have cherry tomatoes around so I use an equal amount of whatever is available.
I’ve seen it somewhere else with the lime juice as an option for the water but it still has the vinegar in it. I think that must be a misprint because that makes no sense whatsoever.

Thanks, Susan, for the Mother’s Day wish! It’s been a good day. I got my kim chee started (finally) and my new TV set up (also finally). Hope yours was a good one, too!
Yes, it was nice of Fred to give me some positive press. He didn’t have to do that and I appreciate it.
