At the time, I didn’t know how interesting.
I got up after 8 and started my day. I was through with the bulk of my exercises and had just gotten on the NT when the phone rang. When I answered, it was someone from the hospital saying that no one showed up to work. It hit me that my Sick Person was scheduled for today and I hadn’t gotten anyone to fill in. I tried to reach the rest of the registrars with no luck so I washed my ‘pits, threw on some clothes, made my hair presentable and looked at the food situation. I didn’t have time to fix anything so I filled up my big water jug and decided I would do an impromptu water fast.
When I got to the hospital, things were pretty quiet. That was soon to change. I started out doing full registrations but, by and by, I went with Quick ERs. Those are the ones that require minimal info but print off labels which are the most important things. I got forms signed, copied insurance cards, and banded patients. I was able to reach one of the registrars this afternoon to come in and discharge the patients from the charts that had been returned. She thought I was calling her to come in to work but I assured her I would stay. It was my mess-up and I wasn’t going to make her pay for it.
I tried to drink a glass of water between calls to the ED but there was a time or two that I got called back too soon to do it. I did drink all the water I’d taken with me and didn’t really feel much hunger at all until late afternoon. I’m still not tired. I’m a little sleepy but that’s to be expected since it’s going on 11 o’clock. I worked until 10. It was 9:45 CDT by the time I got there and I left a few minutes after 9 CDT. I was called back again at 8:56 or I would have gotten out at 9 o’clock.
There was no way I could get to the Pastor’s celebration. I called after it was over and explained the situation. His wife’s mother answered the phone and said she would deliver the message. I was sorry about that but there was nothing I could do to change it.
I am stinky. I need to take a quick shower before I go to bed. I missed the visit with my daughter. I’m sure she tried to call and thought I was out somewhere. I’d planned to go to the valley to shop today as well as hauling off some “varge” as my nephew used to call it. “Life is what happens when you’ve made other plans.” Who said that? Was it John Lennon?
This is it for tonight. I’m hoping the shower will help me unwind and I can sleep well. Good night, all!
